CALIFORNIA RENTERS' INSURANCE
Whether your place of residence is a rented apartment, condo or home; Renters Insurance protects your personal belongings in the event of a loss. It also provides personal liability coverage for others in the event that they are injured while at your residence. It also helps pay for loss of use if you need to rent another place to live while repairs are made to your rental residence.
We suggest that you do a written inventory of your belongings as well as taking photos of you with your personal property. You should store the inventory list and photos off premise so you will have a copy if a loss occurs. It's much more difficult to remember everything you own in the event of a total loss plus carriers sometimes ask for proof that you own certain items so having photos of you with the items makes the claim go much smother and faster.
Doesn't my landlord's Insurance cover me?
NO!! Your personal property and personal liability exposure are your responsibility and yours alone. The landlord's policy only covers damage to the actual physical structure and the landlord's liability only.
Do I need Renters' Insurance?
YES!! Having renters insurance ensures that your personal property is protected. In the event of a total loss, the cost to replace everything you own can add up quickly. Renters insurance is very affordable and the average cost annually for coverage in the Los Angeles Area will cost $125.00 to $200.00. Depending on your deductible option and includes a personal property limit of $25,000. You may increase the personal property limit in $1,000 increments if you need a higher property limit.
Renters' Insurance covers losses as a result of fire, theft, vandalism, windstorm, lightning, hail, malicious mischief, civil riots, water damage(excluding flood), and personal liability.
Earthquake Coverage is excluded from a renters' policy.
You may also add Earthquake insurance directly to your renters' insurance policy with some carriers or purchase a stand alone policy.
